Many people consider using Herbal Medicine, but are put off by negative stories in the press. Here are some useful facts about Herbal Medicine:
· Herbal medicine is the most widely practiced medical system in the world today, with over one quarter of the world's population benefiting from treatment. · Orthodox medicine has now researched and recognised the actions of many herbal products confirming what naturopathic physicians have known and practiced for thousands of years. · Adverse reactions are extremely rare and are negligible when compared to those commonly produced by many of today's pharmaceutical drugs. · When practiced correctly by qualified physicians, herbal medicines are very safe.
How are the herbs taken? Traditionally, Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM), is drunk as a ‘tea’ after boiling the dried and processed herbs in a pan. This is still commonly recognised as being the most effective way. However, for the herbs to have positive therapeutic effects, actually ingesting them is the first step and the smell and taste of the ‘tea’ will very often deter people. There are therefore now alternatives in the forms of powders that mix in water to drink or even capsules that are taken just like many modern pharmaceutical drugs.
How are the herbs prescribed? A full and detailed medical history and lifestyle assessment, usually taking between 30 and 40 minutes, forms the backbone of diagnosis. The appropriate combination of herbs is then carefully considered for its therapeutic and biomedical effects. Contraindications and interactions with any pharmaceutical drugs you are taking are taken into account, ensuring prescriptions are safe and tailored to your particular health needs.
How quickly do prescriptions work? Herbal medicines tend to work less quickly than synthetic pharmaceutical drugs but more gently and, in most cases, with no side effects. Whilst having no side effects, they can still have a strong effect on the body and can be used to treat even severe or chronic conditions. |

All the pharmacies used to source prescriptions are controlled by the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM ) and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). This assures you of the highest quality and that the medicines adhere strictly to the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) regulations. |
